Maurice B. Cohen, MD
Dr. Maurice Cohen is a board-certified Gastroenterologist with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. He was the founding member of Northeast Gastroenterology Associates in Salem NH in 2001 and has been providing excellent care for patients in this community since that time. Dr. Cohen obtained his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at St Elizabeths Hospital, Boston and his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester in 1992.
Dr Cohen is a skilled endoscopist performing colonoscopies, screening and diagnostic as well as Esophagogastroduodenoscopies, EGD’S. He has extensive experience diagnosing, providing treatment options, and managing patients with problems such as swallowing disorders, Gerd, Liver and Pancreatic disorders, digestive disorders, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Hepatitis diagnosis and treatment. Dr Cohen has an excellent reputation in the community for providing exceptional care to his patients. He is regarded in the highest esteem among his colleagues in the medical community.
Harbir Sawhney, MD
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Sawhney, who comes to us from western Massachusetts after having worked in the area for more than 20 years. He has extensive Gastroenterology and Infectious disease expertise. He is dual board certified in both Gastroenterology and Internal medicine as well as fellowship trained in Gastroenterology at the University of Massachusetts and Infectious Disease at Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Sawhney earned his Medical Degree Seth G.S. Medical College in Bombay, India. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Health Sciences, Chicago Medical School.
Dr Sawhney is skilled in advanced diagnostic procedures and treatments options for patients with problems in the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines and rectum. His reputation as an exemplary provider precedes him.

Elizabeth Gemba PA-C
Elizabeth is a board-certified Physician Assistant with 12+ years of experience in Gastroenterology at Northeast Gastroenterology and Core Physicians at Exeter Hospital, where she performed inpatient Gastroenterology consultations and developed the the fecal microbiota transplant program.
She previously pioneered the Hospitalist Physician Assistant programs at Boston Medical Center in 2004 and Newton-Wellesley Hospital in 2008. She has a special interest in helping patients achieve better health by making therapeutic lifestyle changes and is becoming board certified in Lifestyle Medicine.
She earned her Masters in Physician Assistance Studies from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2004 and Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Boston University in 1999.
She enjoys walking on the beach, paddleboarding, skiing, yoga, and playing the violin.
